there are countless issues that people have with the society and which together have led to many people realizing that it is not what it claims and pretends to be.
these include things like the secret un affiliation, contradictory and hypocritical stances, (malawi vs mexico vs un/ngo), the ever changing blood policy and ever changing doctrine, failed predictions for armageddon etc, etc, etc.. but what is the consensus about what the fundamental flaw is?.
what i mean is, many jw's hear about these various issues and manage to make endless excuses for them, even though this involves gross hypocrisy and excusing the society for things they would never excuse in other religions and which the society itself has ruthless condemned other religions for over almost 100 years.
We can but keep on asking this one question, ("Please prove the 1919 choosing ") and demand an answer to it, and then hope.
They seem to be dropping the 1919 date with David Splane saying Jehovah had chosen them by 1916. See new DVD.
The same argument still applies though.

Fantastic sets of photos.
The problem of movement such as in those pictures with water, caused by taking photos in (rapid) sucession was solved in the late 1920's I believe by taking three photograhs at the same time, via mirrors and filters or prisms and filters (cannot remember which) in the Hillman Colour Camera. In the mid 1960's a friend of mine had a half plate version in perfect condition. I have never seen one since.

recently, i've been seeing this argument displayed here more frequently by those still believing jw's.. usually in reply to arguments they can not answer well, like 1914, generation(s), etc.... its almost like, they are are having serious doubts as well, but their fall back is, "but its god organization....where else would you go......don't leave, we are so close to the end".
as one recently shared their experience with a jc.
the elders, when feeling trapped on explanations, fell back to this defense.
Thanks to the Internet and sites such as this, the "Genie is out of the bottle", there is no explanation they can offer.

today i read a newspaper columnist who wrote something that caught my attention:.
"...obedience is a natural response to effective leadership, and this is true regardless of whether the people being led are adults or children.".
now, think about the gb.. virtually every wt "study edition" contains at least one, if not several, reminders about how we should "obey the gb".. dozens of the songs in the new song book extol how worthy of obedience & devotion the gb is.. each assembly & convention features dozens of reminders on how important it is to be obedient & submissive to the gb.. service meeting parts routinely offer "loving reminders" of how jws should obey the gb re: conventions, literature, donations, etc.. .
Jehovah God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit have now been replaced by the GB.
It's interesting to note that Holy Spirit NEVER uses upper case H & S, it's always holy spirit, but the GB ALWAYS has u/c G & B, Governing Body; it's just a matter of importance.

in david splane's talk, "remain in the secret place of the most high", at the 2010 district convention he referred to "rutherford, a prominent member of the governing body".. while technically correct (the governing body is a technical term for a board of directors), the term "governing body" currently has a spiritual meaning, seperate from "board of directors", in the eyes of jws: the representatives of the faithful and discreet slave who make the decisions on spiritual matters.
my understanding is that the "board of directors" handle other business/legal operations (since the 80s re-org).. please correct my if i am wrong, but retroactively applying the modern-day understanding of the term "governing body" to the board of directors in the rutherford/knorr era suggests that the board of directors had equal input on spiritual matters.
my understanding though is that the president/vice-president made the majority of decisions on spiritual matters during that time.. does anyone know of any quotes or references from watchtower material that states who actually made the spiritual decisions during the rutherford/knorr era?.

I remember Knorr then Frantz were the Presidental leaders till they popped up with the idea of the so called Governing body took over after Fred Frantz died.
The GB was formed in 1971, Freddie Franz died in 1992. The GB was formed when both he and Knorr were alive reputedly as a protection against Franz who was a nut case, having full control when Knorr died.

If you can stand to read it there was an article in the WT Dec 15, 1971 p755 which explained how the GB started in 33 CE and what happened in the 1800's etc. However I think any rational person would have to admit that the GB really started on Oct 1, 1971 and has been applied retrospectively since then. Certainly there are fewer index references pre 1971 than post 1971.
